Come and join a progressive and rewarding business to protect our Victorian workers and return them home safely every day.  The WorkSafe Project Management Practice is part of the Enterprise Delivery division which supports the delivery of WorkSafe strategic initiatives to deliver outcomes aligned to our purpose in reducing workplace harm and improving outcomes for injured workers.

Purpose

This is a fantastic opportunity for a project leader to support the continued establishment of an enterprise project management practice for WorkSafe.  Working with a highly engaged leadership team, the Portfolio Lead plays a key strategic leadership role in the practice, accountable for leading and supporting a team of project delivery professionals, building out best practice delivery standards and capabilities and work closely with senior leadership team and key stakeholders in their assigned portfolio of work to ensure high quality delivery services are being provided.

This role will be given the opportunity to bring thought leadership, strategic thinking and apply agile ways of working to their delivery approaches, working with other practice leads such as design, change management and business analysis to provide an integrated delivery approach.  The role also requires the ability to shape up new initiatives, model to the team best practice ways of working and support the project team when projects are off track or require attention.

Key accountabilities of this role will include:

  • Using a range of formal and informal leadership tools, be accountable for the performance, resource allocation and recruitment of a team of project professionals to deliver high-quality and timely outcomes for WorkSafe, using advanced project management delivery skills with strong focus on the client experience.
  • Lead the ongoing development and promotion of model project management best practices, standards, competencies, behaviours, knowledge and skills.
  • Lead the provision of project management advice and support to Senior Leadership Team and Program Directors within assigned portfolio to ensure the successful delivery of all portfolio initiatives.
  • Build WorkSafe’s internal project management and agile capability through recruitment, onboarding, development and capacity management of project management capability across the practice in line with demand
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of strategies to entrench the value associated with project management and the practice within the portfolio.

About you

You will bring a diverse variety of leadership tools combined with demonstrated experience and results in leading large teams of project management professionals assigned to enterprise-wide strategic programs.

You are a team and performance oriented person who enjoys leading, delivering and making an impact on your team and stakeholders. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Experience in leading project management professionals delivering in both traditional and iterative delivery approaches. Extensive practical experience in waterfall and/or agile project delivery frameworks / methodologies, and ability to bring ‘fresh’ ideas to the team
  • Proven leadership, communication, stakeholder management and interpersonal skills including coaching, facilitation, influencing, negotiation and liaising skills, and the ability to adapt these to a diverse range of stakeholders and contexts. 
  • Excellent capability building expertise to build high performance teams including defining, shaping, and improving capability that compliments the context of enterprise-wide needs. Establishing a psychologically safe environment facilitating the unconstrained development of project management professionals.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to establish credibility quickly and gain a reputation as a trusted advisor.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks, work accurately with attention to detail, and meet deadlines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Business, Technology, Engineering or related field
  • A tertiary qualification in project management or equivalent.
  • Relevant professional qualifications in both traditional and agile delivery (PMBOK, PRINCE2, SAFe, Scrum@Scale or PMI-DAD etc)

Highly desirable

  • Advanced project management certification (MSP, MoP, PgMP, PfMP, CPPD, CPPE, ChPP etc)
