Public Sector People is working with a QLD State Government Department to recruit an AO7 Principal Fixed Asset Accountant on a short term contract basis. 

  • Starting ASAP - Contract until end of October
  • $83.13 per hour plus super
  • Brisbane CBD location

About the Role: 

As a key member of the Finance team, you will:

  • Lead the month-end process for asset accounting and Capital Work-in-Progress, collaborating with the Assets team and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Maintain detailed and precise records of all fixed assets, covering aspects such as acquisition costs, depreciation, disposals, and revaluations.
  • Prepare and reconcile asset movements, perform depreciation analysis, and manage Capital Work-in-Progress, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury’s Non-Current Asset Policies.
  • Provide expert advice on asset policies related to Capital Work-in-Progress, acquisitions, disposals, transfers, useful life changes, and revaluations.
  • Drive the annual non-current assets revaluation process, coordinating with external valuers to deliver accurate and timely outcomes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the department’s annual financial statements for Fixed Assets, working closely with planning teams.
  • Respond to urgent financial information requests, including Ministerial and management briefings, audit inquiries, and technical accounting positions on fixed assets.
  • Analyze and enhance fixed asset management practices to ensure effective and efficient outcomes.
  • Communicate complex asset-related financial information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and auditors.
  • Provide support to the Manager of Capital, Maintenance, and Asset Accounting as needed

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting
  • CPA Membership (or eligibility for membership) is required.
  • Compliance with the department’s COVID-19 vaccination requirement policy is mandatory for this role.
  • Experience in an Asset Accounting role for a government department is highly desirable
