As a Building and Planning Investigator, you may be working within any of the response teams within Access Canberra’s Construction and Planning Regulation Branch. These teams include the Rapid Regulatory Response Team, the Compliance, Monitoring and Inspections Team and the Construction and Planning Investigations Team and you will work alongside the Construction Audit team to provide a holistic approach to ensuring proportionate and responsive regulatory programs and actions to improve the quality of building and construction in the ACT community.
This role includes the delegations and appointments of a building inspector under the Building Act 2004, the Planning Act 2023, the Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004 as well as an authorised person under the Heritage Act 2004 and you will be responsible for working in any one of the above mentioned teams to fulfill the vision and purpose of the Branch and Access Canberra (AC). You will operate with a high degree of integrity to undertake multiple complex and interesting investigations in response to building and planning complaints.
You will also be responsible for various aspects of the regulation of construction practitioners in the ACT, including but not limited to conducting compliance and monitoring inspections, compliance audits, investigations including gathering evidence, formal statements, conducting research and taking proportionate and responsive regulatory actions. You may also be required to prepare briefs of evidence and attend court.

A qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework that is a certificate IV or higher in Government Investigations / Compliance / Enforcement. For positions within the Construction and Planning Regulation Branch, demonstrate knowledge of ACT planning and building legislation and demonstrated ability to read, understand and interpret technical codes and survey plan designs and drawings is highly desirable. The successful applicants must meet suitability requirements (experience, qualifications, and personal character) to be appointed as an Authorised Person under the relevant legislation.Mandatory:
Possession of a current driver’s licence at C class or above.Notes: There is one permanent position available immediately in the Compliance, Monitoring, and Inspections Team. A merit pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill current and future vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection will be based on application, interview, and referee reports.
