Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Automotive Journalist to join our team. 

As a Journalist for Drive you will be responsible for researching, writing and presenting engaging content related to the automotive industry. 

Reporting to the Managing Editor, your focus will be on writing and creating videos across news, reviews, features and opinion that cover a wide range of topics, including new car launches, industry trends, technological advancements, and industry events. You will have the opportunity to test drive vehicles, interview industry experts, and provide insightful analysis to our audience. Finally, you will be a proven self-starter with the ability to delivery clean copy to brief and deadline.

Day to day you will:

Research and stay up to date with the latest developments, trends, and news in the automotive industry, including new vehicle launches, technology advancements, industry regulations, and market dynamics.  Attend automotive industry events, press conferences, and product launches to gather firsthand information and build industry connections. Contribute creative story ideas and pitch them to the editorial leadership team. Write high-quality reviews, features, news, and opinion that are accurate, engaging, and tailored to our target audience. Script and present video performances that are engaging and accurate. Adhere to strict publishing deadlines in a timely and organized manner.  Collaborate with editors, photographers, and videographers to enhance the visual appeal and multimedia aspects of your content. Learn and implement search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies to maximise visibility and organic traffic. Develop engaging social media assets for the purposes of promoting your content via Drive socials.  Engage with our audience, responding to comments and questions related to your articles. Monitor and analyse the performance of your articles providing insights and suggestions for content improvement.  Ensure all work complies with the legal and ethical regulations that apply to journalism.

Qualifications

You will have:

Full driver’s licence and ability to drive manual transmission vehicle. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field. Minimum 2yrs experience in journalism, preferably automotive. Passion for the automotive industry, with a strong desire to build a career in automotive journalism. Excellent research and fact-checking skills, with the ability to gather information from reliable sources. Strong writing and communication skills with a focus on grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to adapt writing style to different formats and audiences.  Familiarity with content management systems (CMS).  Basic understanding of SEO best practices and the willingness to learn and implement them.  Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a willingness to learn from senior team members. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
