A little bit about us
The Arts Division leads the Department’s engagement on arts and culture and provides high quality strategic advice to the Minister on creative sector policy and program issues. The Division also administers programs that support Australia’s creative sector and stimulate participation in Australia’s cultural life; and foster employment and growth across the creative sectors. Artbank is a section within the Creative Industries Branch of the Arts Division. Established in 1980, Artbank is an Australian Government arts support program, and a key component of the Government’s support for visual artists. The program aims to increase the sustainability and accessibility of Australian contemporary art; support Australian contemporary artists; and encourage engagement with and appreciation of Australian contemporary art by the broader community. Within this context, Artbank has two core program objectives: to provide direct support to living Australian artists through the acquisition of their work; and to promote the value of Australian contemporary art to the broader community by making this work available through an art rental scheme. Artbank has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. The opportunity we have available The position of Art Consultant works as part of a national client services team responsible for building Artbank’s art leasing with public and private clients. This position requires visual arts knowledge and commercial acumen. Through the provision of high-level art consultancy services, you will act as a public face for the organisation – working with potential and existing clients in support of Artbank’s art leasing program. You will be a great communicator and possess the ability to interpret a client’s need and translate this into a tailored (curated) selection of artworks drawn from the Artbank collection. The role makes a significant contribution to Artbank’s organisational objectives through leading the development and implementation of business development strategies. The role will require expertise in analysis and presentation of client leasing data for inclusion in program reporting and planning - working collaboratively with Consultants in other states. This is a part-time position, 3 or 4 days per week, and requires experience working with contemporary art – ideally in a commercial/sales focused context. Initially this position will be based out of the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts office in Perth. The successful candidate will be required to meet with clients in a face to face setting at client premises and at the Perth office. What will you do? In the first twelve months the department intends to establish an Artbank Perth premises, including storeroom/ client showroom, and the person who takes this role would be central to the development of this asset, working with departmental colleagues. Under general guidance and in accordance with APS values and Code of Conduct, Government and Departmental policies and the relevant Secretary’s Instructions, the Art Consultant duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Artbank’s objectives and purpose. Drive increased business for the art leasing program, including through growing and leveraging opportunities in your existing networks and clients, and researching and building relationships with new clients. Directly manage clients, ensuring their ongoing needs are addressed. Work collaboratively and flexibly across all Artbank teams as required to ensure consistent and effective delivery of the Artbank program and art leasing scheme. Contribute to the development of strategic and business planning for Artbank, including in particular the systems and processes that support the business and client service functions. Contribute to curatorial and client event programming as required and other initiatives that support Artbank’s objectives and promote increased access to and understanding of Australian visual art. Meet leasing and KPI targets for new and existing clients. Ensure compliance of all relevant procedures, policies and guidelines set by Artbank and the department. Who are we looking for? We are searching for an excellent art consultant, who is keen to apply their skills and knowledge in a unique arts program managed by the commonwealth government. We are seeking someone who:
