Overview

Reporting to the Head of Service & Operating Resilience, the Capability & Engagement Manager will be responsible for leading workforce capability uplift via the deployment of relevant training programs & planning and delivery of initiatives and events to improve engagement across the Retirement Solutions business.   
The role will be responsible for leading initiatives to boost staff competencies, leadership skills, and skill development, strategically integrating innovative learning technologies, managing external vendor relationships, and developing comprehensive capability and leadership frameworks to enhance educational outcomes.
You will be working closely with leaders and our HR team to help develop and grow a more collaborative company culture and support action plans that drive greater engagement of our workforce. Aligning and supporting our People strategy in making MUFG ‘a great place to work’ and drive positive employee experiences.
Primary focus of the role is to support the Services team, however the expectation is that the role always considers & implements (where appropriate) for the broader Retirement Solution business.

 
Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities
Strategic Focus 

  • Proactively identify opportunities to drive improvements in capability and engagement whilst minimising any associated costs or risks.
  • Build capability across the business aligned with our strategic goals.
  • In partnership with leaders & HR, drive an increase in employee engagement through targeted data-driven strategies and action plans to improve the employee experience and maintain a culture of high-performance.

Operational Management 

  • Capability management including competency frameworks (design and implementation) skills matrix (assessments and utilisation) Learning and Development (including coaching network) Talent management, standardising contact centre best practise frameworks, upskilling and cross skilling programs etc 
  • Collaborate across the business to design and drive delivery of engagement events and social activities
  • Oversee and manage events & training, co-ordination of the communication on events scheduling and activities
  • Co-ordinate activities between stakeholders and any third-party vendors
  • Ensure the delivery of post training and event deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Actively build and advocate productive relationships with stakeholders, management, and staff
  • Ensure plans are executed to schedule and scope.
  • Manage internal programs across R&SS to deliver better outcomes for our people and our teams

People Leadership 

  • Leadership & development of a small team (Training Lead and Instructional Designer
  • Promote a One MUFG culture within the team encouraging collaboration and leveraging expertise across the business to deliver exceptional outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of high performance that values learning and a commitment to quality and customer centricity in line with MUFG core values.
  • Promote and support diverse and inclusive behaviours and thinking
  • Role model customer first behaviours and embed in the team a customer first attitude in all interactions with internal and external stakeholders

Governance & Risk 

  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and proactive identification of potential issues
  • Ensure that all activities are consistent with MUFG practices and that any new initiatives (e.g. recognition) are not incongruent with existing programs and policies
  • Ensure all MUFG information security policies, processes and procedures are followed, review information security breaches, and periodically review information security requirements for relevant IT systems and processes
  • Leverage expertise so that regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements are met, with adequate controls in place.

Experience & Personal Attributes
Essential Criteria

  • Degree qualified in Business, Communications, Commerce or related field.
  • 5+ years professional experience working in large and complex environments managing programs and/or portfolios, experience working through large change and integration programs is highly desirable
  • Think and act strategically, develop practical and innovative solutions, and recognise potential risks and opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, evidence of influencing senior leadership to deliver effective change and working across organisations to deliver results are desirable.
  • Solid understanding of employee engagement strategies and change management principles
  • Experience with delivery of training programs is desirable
  • Excellent project management and planning skills
  • Proven event management experience
  • Experience and knowledge of talent and development approaches and challenges is essential.
  • Experience in developing presentations, management reports & budget information.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment
  • Enthusiastic, energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision required
  • High attention to detail
  • Time management and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong team spirit
  • Can-do, determined attitude, willing to take the initiative, solve problems and adapt to rapidly-changing priorities
  • Must have a passion for people and engaging employees
