AEMO’s System Design division is responsible for planning the power system in the context of unprecedented transformation. The rapid transition to renewable energy generation and electrification of many sectors (transport, industry etc) has seen sharp rises in proposed transmission connection projects.

Victorian Network Services & Delivery is a Department within AEMO’s System Design Division with the key objective to delivery Victorian electricity transmission projects in the long-term interests of consumers. Critical to the achievement of this objective is program management to support the development and implementation of infrastructure projects to meet those needs (including procurement processes and contract management).

About the role

Working for the Commercial Manager, the Senior Project Controller will be required to develop and implement project controls systems and processes whilst working with the Project Manager and Discipline Leads within AEMO and other entities including VicGrid, AEMO contractors and consultants.   

This role will ensure that all work meets the standards in relation to safety, quality, time-frame, cost and other project specific requirements. This role will also assist in developing and managing project and corporate reporting as required.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and apply project control processes to the delivery of the Western Renewables Link Project by AusNet, the project Proponent    and for work performed by AEMO and others.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining master schedule working closely with both Internal and External Stakeholders including VicGrid.
  • Manage the project controls and planning capability within the contract to ensure an efficient, effective and sustainable capability to achieve the required level of service.
  • Baseline plans, establish and manage dependencies, and track tasks as part of project delivery.
  • Develop and Implement Earned Value Matrix, ensuring periodic and timely reporting.
  • Coach, Mentor Cost controller and accurately report on planned vs actual progress and costs.
  • Identify opportunities and risks, develop mitigation strategies, monitor and report on schedule impact and status of identifies risks and opportunities.
  • Identify, track and report on key milestones and prepare periodic reports.
  • Assist in review of Contractor forecast. 
     

What you will bring to the role

  • Appropriate Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (such as engineering, commerce, or management) is desirable.
  • Certification in a project management competency (Prince2, APM, PMI, etc)
  • An understanding of government authorising environment and decision making in relation to major infrastructure projects is desirable.
  • An understanding of Victoria’s renewable energy landscape is desirable.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Must have significant experience in Project Controls, working within infrastructure and construction industries.
  • Must have a strong safety focus and a drive for continuous improvement in all areas of the project.
  • Must have experience preparing and tracking budgets and project financials.
  • Must have data, trend and risk analysis experience with excellent attention to detail.
  • Must have Project Controls systems/software, MS Office skills and experience with Primavera.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Preferably have previous experience in establishing effective project systems and controls.
  • Preferable experience in the development and delivery of both project and corporate level reports.
  • Preferable understanding of both internal requirements and contractual obligations when it comes to delivering on cost, planning, progress and change reporting.
  • Preferable understanding of legislative provisions to ensure that all works and systems are compliant.
