The Company

Our client is in the FMCG space and undergoing a major cloud journey. They are seeking a Senior Linux Engineer to take ownership of Linux server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems and applications. This is a permanent opportunity in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

The Role
  
Key responsibilities: 

  • Architect, Design, deploy, configure, and manage infrastructure and Linux-based instances and services on premises and in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or others and support project planning and delivery.
  • Monitor system performance, analyse bottlenecks, and implement improvements to enhance server efficiency and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using languages like Bash, Python, or Perl to streamline system administration tasks and improve productivity.
  • Develop and execute patch management strategies for systems, including regular updates, security patches, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Implement and maintain security measures and harden hosts to protect systems from unauthorised access, viruses, and other threats.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need: 

  • 7+ years’ experience in a system engineering role.
  • Strong experience with Unix & Linux server administration, including BSD, CentOS, Ubuntu, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), along with a solid understanding of Linux internals and command-line tools.
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and task scripting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in patch management processes, including vulnerability assessment, patch testing, and deployment for Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with virtualisation platform VMware.
  • Experience with container technologies` such as Docker or Kubernetes, including container deployment, orchestration, and management.
  • Familiarity with public cloud platforms.
