**Role overview**:
The Support Engineering Manager undertakes professional engineering work and leads a team of professional engineers and technical staff that are involved in the design, development and support of innovative products to provide new and improved capability for our customers. The Support Engineering Team members work with other project team members during the product development phase and take an even more significant role during the product support phase to ensure that delivered product meets customer needs and is supported and enhanced as required to add further value during the life of the product for the customer and the business. The Support Engineering Manager works with internal and external stakeholders in a transdisciplinary manner to understand end user requirements, build and develop the team, establish the necessary technologies and capabilities, and provide expert technical and management support to the team and the business. It is expected that the Support Engineering Manager's time will be evenly split between technical work and people management.
**Primary responsibilities**:
- Accountable for the leadership, morale, output and performance of the team
- Accountable for the performance and behaviour of all individual team members
- Develop a vision for the team, outline the associated plan and implement required actions
- Ensure that sufficient skilled resources are available to achieve business requirements
- Plan and implement actions to ensure the ongoing professional development of team members
- Develop the required functional expertise of the team to ensure overall team capability meets current and future business needs including product configuration management, data management, training development, product support engineering, field service engineering, technical publications development and technical writing services
- Conduct performance reviews of team members using input from others as required
- Act as the point of escalation for team members to resolve any issues
- Assess project needs provided by project managers and others, and assign work to team members
- Approve leave for team members, review expense reports and undertake other resource management administrative tasks and activities as required to manage the team
- Establish budget requirements and ensure adequate controls and financial management is carried out to deliver the services of the team within the department plan
- Undertake professional work in the applicable technical area of expertise as required to develop the business, contribute to project delivery and support in-service product
- Produce timely project and support deliverables including project and technical documentation of high quality that is clear and concise with content that is sufficient to meet both project and support needs while complying with both company and customer requirements
- Communicate and collaborate effectively and professionally with other teams, other functions, customers, sub-contractors and suppliers in a professional manner that reflects the best attributes and aspirations of Collins Aerospace
- Actively identify and manage risks and resolve technical problems including those that cross functional domain areas in the best interests of the business
- Coordinate and facilitate the sharing and capture of knowledge within the team, and with other teams, and conduct lessons learned reviews. Complete the associated actions to ensure that the team avoids repeating mistakes and is continually improving
- Develop metrics to assess team performance and customer satisfaction to identify areas of success and areas for improvement
- Review and approve the work of others, as delegated, to ensure that work performed by the team is of sufficient quality and that the associated quality of work is known
- Demonstrate leadership that aligns with the leader behaviour success drivers
