Experience in quality management system compliance, administration, internal auditing, record keeping and reporting.
- Laboratory experience, with knowledge in at least one area of microbiology, molecular biology, entomology, plant pathology, botany, or other field relevant to biosecurity.

**Key responsibilities include**

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Quality Director (or equivalent), the Laboratory Assurance Manager will contribute to technical and operational laboratory management through delivery of Laboratory Assurance Program tasks. The duties of the role will include, but are not limited to:

- Undertake and facilitate a range of assurance program requirements and administrative activities that contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the laboratory and supports the delivery of assurance program objectives.
- Communicate, collaborate, report, and undertake, where applicable, activities relating to the laboratory equipment maintenance schedule, calibration, servicing, and repair.
- Contribute to the preparation of documents such as reports, instructional material, forms, and document reviews.
- Contribute technical or administrative skills and knowledge in working groups, training opportunities, and cross-section functions, primarily with internal stakeholders and on assurance issues.
- Liaise, negotiate, and communicate with government agencies, industry bodies and other stakeholders, as necessary.
- Liaise with internal professionals to complete assessments.
- Enter data and maintain manual and computer-based records with a high level of accuracy and in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Provide support in the preparation and maintenance of biosecurity specimen reference collections as required.
- Undertake training, internal auditing, verification, inspection, and reporting of laboratory activities and quality management system processes as required.
- Contribute to the implementation of systems improvement initiatives, specifically a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Undertake activities to develop knowledge and expertise in relation to professional skills.
- Prioritise and manage time to provide an efficient and effective service to meet internal and external client expectations, within a regulatory environment.
- Work independently or under limited guidance and with a high level of initiative, integrity, and flexibility to support the work practices of the team and the day-to-day operations of the laboratory.
- Provide innovative advice and support changes that may affect Science and Surveillance Group and/or delivery of key outputs to clients.
- Promote and ensure compliance with departmental WH&S, Quality, & Environmental Management System policies, guidelines, and actively report risks and opportunities for improvement in relation to these systems.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Well-developed quality management system expertise, administrative support, including management of system schedules.
- Well-developed ability to coordinate task allocation and provide timely and quality evidence-based contributions. Project management experience would be desirable.
- Well-developed ability to record data, analyse information and prepare reports and documentation.
- Ability to think laterally, solve problems and implement innovative solutions to improve existing practices under limited supervision.
- Well-developed ability to communicate and successfully complete tasks within a group with competing priorities and varying stakeholder engagement.
- The ability to effectively develop further technical capacity in specific areas where required.

**Mandatory qualifications**

Tertiary qualifications in agriculture or biological science and/or formal certifications in quality management system awareness, or project management.
