New Horizons is looking for a dedicated
Full-Time Permanent Aboriginal Community Support Worker
to join our team within theHousing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Program in the
Wollondillyand Wingecarribee
area. This is an identified position under Section 14 of theAnti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), and we strongly encourage applications fromAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This role specifically providespsychosocial supports and works in partnership with people living with mentalill-health, empowering them to live and recover within the community in the waythat they want to. We support our customers to build independence, identify andachieve goals, engage in activities of daily life, and encourage genuineconnections within the community.

You'll also bring:
Cultural Competence and Connection: A strong understanding of,and connection to, Aboriginal cultures and communities. This includes theability to apply culturally appropriate practices and communication inyour work.
Building Cultural Safety: A commitment to actively contributingto and enhancing New Horizons' culturally safe service delivery forAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers. This involves advocatingfor their needs and helping to shape an environment where they feelrespected and understood.
A strong set of values that guides your work, incorporating ourorganisational values of passion, integrity & respect.
Great computer skills with proven ability to use MicrosoftOffice and customer relationship management systems.
Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalentindustry experience.
Valid NSW Class C driver's licence, with the ability to drivevehicles in this licence class, including large cars and vans.
Current Police check (not more than 3 months old), WWCC andNDIS WC to meet New Horizons employment criteria prior to commencing withus.
The Day-to-Day
Collaborating with customers to develop individualised,person-centred support plans that incorporate their identified wellbeingneeds, their strengths, and their goals, with a strong focus on culturalsafety and responsiveness.
Providing support to customers to improve their independence byassisting with skill development, transport, social activities, supportingwith finances, attending appointments, cooking, medication and personalcare, as well as other supports as required.
Supporting and encouraging our customers to participate inactivities of their choice, such as social, leisure, sporting,educational, employment activities, etc.
Keeping customer records up to date daily using online systemsand electronic databases.
Developing and maintaining strong, trusting relationships andnetworks with Aboriginal communities, Elders, community leaders, and bothIndigenous-identified and non-identified stakeholders relevant tosupporting Indigenous consumers. This includes acting as a key liaison toensure our services are well-connected and responsive to community needs.
Supporting customers to navigate the sector to access anyadditional service they may require, particularly culturally specificservices.
Seeking out innovative ways to enhance the recovery journey andoverall customer experience with New Horizons.
