The Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust is responsible for Australia's oldest scientific institute, three iconic botanic gardens and one of the nation's most significant public parks. The Trust incorporates the Australian Institute of Botanical Science, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan, the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah and The Domain.

**About the role**

Our Events and Venues team are looking for an experienced, passionate and motivated, Venue Manager. The Venue Manager will focus on managing a busy team to deliver exceptional venue hire and venue operations, retail and visitor centres, event activations, corporate functions, weddings, picnics, filming and photography and exhibitions to contribute to the achievement of revenue targets and provide quality services and customer experiences. Additionally, the Venue Manager will play a vital role in implementing the priorities of the masterplan and reposition the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan as a major event destination.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Events or Venues Manager to join a group of like-minded events and venues staff.

**What you'll be doing**
- Manage the Venues team to provide efficient customer focused services and oversee the implementation of functions, events and bookings to effectively position Botanic Gardens within the local area and effectively promote the site's activities, programs and bookable products.
- Develop the opportunity to grow the Garden into a major event venue, and identify and manage third party major event operators inline with the Major Event DA.
- Manage the visitor centre including the provision of visitor information, retail operations, coordination of a diverse range of events/functions, customer services, and community activities to maintain and satisfy the existing customer base and attract new business to meet annual business targets.
- Prepare reports, including regular performance reports on activities, to accurately track trend data and key revenue streams including visitation. Collect, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data on bookings to provide statistics and timely reports on trends.
- Undertake a range of financial activities including monitoring and reporting on income and expenditure, processing purchase orders and invoice requests, stock control and handling, issuing receipts, and providing input to the review of fees and charges in order to contribute to the preparation and management of the unit's budget.
- Calculate and negotiate charges for venues and sites with clients, in consultation with the Head of Events and Venues, in line with established policies.
- Work collaboratively across the portfolio and liaise with key staff, licensees and external stakeholders regarding weekly bookings and events schedules to ensure that necessary services are provided, and good relations are maintained.

**About You**

**Key knowledge and experience**
- Major Event operational experience of a public venue.
- Experience in overseeing a complex working environment which includes several highly valuable contracts that deliver service staff, food and beverage services, retail operations, events and short-term hire arrangements.
- Experience with venue site management and with complexities such as the management of crowds, traffic, maintenance and liaison with a range of external agencies.
- Experience in developing, implementing and managing a range of special events, functions and visitor centre operations.

**Essential requirements**
- Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required including New Year's Eve in Sydney.
- Current drivers' licence.
