Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in 1977 and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market.

The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project - a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of new intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines.

**About the Opportunity**:
An exciting opportunity in a newly formed team for Hyundai-Rotem has become available as The Technical Fault Response SME. This position provides expert _on-train_ technical support in diagnosing and resolving complex faults across ETCS, TCC, and general electronic systems. The role ensures real-time assistance to maintenance and operations teams, contributing directly to fleet reliability and performance. The SME will spend the majority of their time (approximately 80%) on board trains during maintenance or in-service fault response activities, with office time limited to reporting and supporting FRACAS investigations.

**Primary Purpose**
- To provide on-train technical expertise, assisting technicians in diagnosing and resolving complex faults related to ETCS / TCC / and train electronic systems.
- To deliver real-time, on-train support during service recovery, fault rectification, and testing activities.
- To contribute to technical investigations and FRACAS processes by providing detailed fault data, analysis, and reporting.
- To identify trends in on-train faults and support engineering teams in implementing corrective actions or design improvements.

**Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**
- Provide on-train technical fault response and support during maintenance activities and in-service incidents.
- Lead on-train diagnostic activities through excellent understanding of on train subsystems, including real-time fault finding using system logs, event recorder data, and on-board test tools.
- Support maintenance teams and mobile technicians in resolving complex faults, minimising in-service delays and improving fleet availability.
- Accurately document on-train fault findings, resolutions, and recommendations for inclusion in FRACAS and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to technical reports and root cause analyses for recurring or significant faults.
- Provide expert input to attribution, VMC, and reliability meetings as required.
- Assist with the development of on-train fault finding procedures and practical guidance for technicians

**Qualifications, Experience and Skills Requirements**
- Appropriate and recognised qualifications (minimum level 4 AQF) in engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years rollingstock/aerospace, operations, corrective, and preventative maintenance experience.
- Strong applied knowledge of subsystem fault finding.
- Excellent oral and communication skills, including technical presentations to support reporting to external stakeholders.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently to organise and prioritise demands.
- Strong planning skills to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.
