Shape Your World

At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper, world-shaper.

About the Role:
In line with our global commitments to social sustainability and to respect the diversity, cultures, customs, and values of Indigenous and other Land-Connected Peoples, we have an exciting and rewarding new role to strengthen our cultural heritage management system and guide Alcoa towards collaborative management of heritage values in the regions where we operate.

In the southwest region of Western Australia (WA) Alcoa operates the Huntly and Willowdale bauxite mines and the Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup alumina refineries and associated farmlands on lands that were traditionally cared for by people of the Noongar nation. In Victoria Alcoa operates the Portland Smelter on the traditional lands of the Gunditjmara people and manages the transformation of the Point Henry smelter and Anglesea Mine on Wadawurrung country. Alcoa seeks to increase its formal recognition of and engagement with the Noongar, Gunditjmara and Wadawurrung peoples and their representative bodies on the protection, celebration and management of Aboriginal tangible and intangible cultural heritage values, rights and interests.

Non-Indigenous historic heritage values also require documentation and management in consultation with relevant community members and organisations. This is particularly relevant to the Southwest WA Location landholdings where such sites, largely relating to historic forestry activities, are located.

As the Cultural Heritage Lead you will be required to ensure that Alcoa's cultural heritage management system evolves to adapt to the changing legislative context and meets industry leading social standards by:
- Reviewing and improving Location Cultural Heritage Management Systems (CHMS) and plans to ensure the protection, celebration and management of Aboriginal heritage values in conjunction with operational and other functions and in consultation with Aboriginal corporations and representatives.- Overseeing the development and implementation of project level cultural heritage management plans (CHMPs), in consultation with relevant Aboriginal people and representative bodies (for Aboriginal heritage) and/or relevant community members / organisations (for non-Indigenous historic heritage). - Implementing process for periodic assurance of CHMS compliance.
