**About the Role**:
The Minerals Australia Heritage Team is responsible for delivering dual goals for the company; delivering social value in line with our Reconciliation Action Plan and unlocking resource value in line with our Life of Asset Plans.
The role of the Heritage Team is to ensure that the company manages Aboriginal Cultural Heritage in line with the expectations of Traditional Owners and in line with our Charter Values.
Based in our Perth office, this role reports to the Manager Cultural Heritage. The role is Mon - Fri with some ad hoc site travel, however flexible working options will be considered.
You will be required to:
- Build strong relationships and consult with Traditional Owners over current and future operations.
- Oversee scientific research to understand the heritage landscape.
- Collaborate internally with the operations to identify solutions to minimise our overall heritage impact and align on priorities.
- Partner with community organisations and work closely with government agencies.
- Support BHP to meet its current production targets, future growth objectives and Reconciliation Action Plan incentives by facilitating heritage surveys and cultural understanding activities in line with relevant heritage legislation and company commitments.
The role has up to four direct reports.
**About You**:
To be successful in the Superintendent Cultural Heritage role you will be driven by a personal desire to make a positive difference in the community combined with a clear understanding of the role that the resources sector plays in cultural heritage management. You will lead by example and will have the technical expertise to provide detailed guidance on all aspects of cultural heritage management.
You will also have the following skills and attributes:
- Tertiary qualification in Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, Indigenous Studies, or similar/equivalent
- Ability to develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders through the use of excellent communication skills.
- Experience negotiating Heritage Agreements and/or Cultural Heritage Management Plans.
- Proven ability to work positively and in partnership with Aboriginal people and communities to enable opportunities and execute initiatives that unlock social value.
- Experience leading teams in complex environments including demonstrated ability make informed decisions when required.
Previous experience in the Mining Industry would be beneficial, as would a focus on cultural heritage management in the Pilbara region of Western Australia
