The Manager Operational Risk is responsible for championing the bank's operational risk management approach within the first line, embedding a strong risk culture through leadership, training, and education.
It leads the development and execution of a robust risk and control assurance program, providing oversight, challenge, and insights into the bank's operational risk profile.
Key focus areas include workplace safety, fraud, data, product and service delivery, and risks embedded in financial and project activities.

What you will be doing Design and manage the bank's operational risk program, supporting first line teams to identify, document, and control operational risks.
Lead a structured assurance program, conducting walkthroughs, sample testing, and data analysis to challenge and improve control effectiveness.
Ensure controls align with regulatory obligations, including CPS 230, and develop supporting policies and procedures.
Investigate operational incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend improvements to address control gaps.
Integrate risk management into project and change initiatives by reviewing business cases, assessing risks, and identifying systemic issues.
Oversee data-related risk controls, including governance, privacy, and usage, and support uplift in data management maturity.
Provide insights and reporting on the bank's operational risk profile to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
What you will bring Strong leadership and management experience across diverse and complex teams Ability to influence and embed a strong risk culture across all levels Curious, diligent, and committed to continuous improvement Proven ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate within teams Excellent written and verbal communication skills Skilled in coaching and training in both technical and soft skills Experience designing and delivering risk assurance programs Knowledge of regulatory obligations including CPS 230 and CPG 235 Strong experience in operational risk and banking Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk, finance, or related discipline Experience engaging with first line risk owners, Risk & Compliance teams, Executives, and APRA Commitment to Bank Australia's purpose, aspiration, values and brand as well as the B Corp ethos.
