Join our team as a Horticulturalist
Looking for a role that lets you work outdoors, showcase your horticultural skills, and still enjoy great work–life balance?
As part of Redland City Council's Parks Maintenance Services Team, you'll play a hands-on role in maintaining and enhancing our high-profile parks, town centres, and destination spaces across the Redlands Coast.
This part-time position (five days per fortnight) offers a fantastic roster – work Wednesday to Friday one week, then Monday and Tuesday the next – giving you a long weekend every second week.
From planting, trimming, hedging and weeding, through to maintaining park furniture and assets, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, takes pride in presentation, and wants to help keep our community spaces vibrant and welcoming.
Your responsibilities will include:
Horticultural maintenance including planting, trimming, hedging, and weeding to keep parks and gardens maintained to Council standards
Maintaining park furniture, garden beds, and other community assets
Operate and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery safely and effectively
Identifying and reporting any safety or maintenance issues while on site
Working with minimal supervision while taking pride in producing quality results
Sharing your horticultural knowledge with the team and providing practical advice when needed
Collaborating with your teammates to deliver great outcomes for the community.
Skills and experience:
Hands-on experience in horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance, with a passion for quality results
Physically fit and comfortable performing manual outdoor work such as planting, lifting, trimming, and digging
Able to work safely and follow WHS practices, while identifying and reporting hazards on site
Confident using and maintaining tools, equipment, and machinery for horticulture and irrigation tasks
Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute positively to a cooperative and supportive team environment
Good communication and customer service skills when dealing with colleagues and the community
Practical knowledge and technical skills in horticulture, with a keen interest in growing and maintaining healthy, vibrant landscapes.
