Uses problem-solving skills, tact, and discretion to oversee and direct the Optical department and its staff. Schedules, staffs, trains, coaches, counsels, and reviews the Optical personnel during daily warehouse activities. Works in communication with various levels of management to resolve issues. Manages operations of the optical department, including buying and maintaining the equipment and supplies. Monitors department performance and reviews department financials. Oversees and participates in Licensed Dispensing Opticians duties as needed, including fitting and adjusting eyeglasses and dispensing contacts. Implements and upholds proper Optical and general safety procedures and standards. Assists members while providing a high level of member service.

**DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Develops, coaches, counsels, and directs Optical personnel
- Monitors employee performance and provides proactive feedback to promote team work and accountability
- Participates in the employment process by making recommendations for hiring, promotion, and termination
- Responds to employee concerns using problem solving skills, tact, and discretion in accordance with the Costco Employee Agreement and other applicable regulations
- Participates in Optical employee evaluations
- Approves timecards and other reports
- Implements and upholds proper Optical and general safety procedures/standards and monitors department cleanliness
- Coordinates Optical schedule
- Reviews Optical sales, benchmarks, expense, and productivity figures
- Monitors department profit and loss and adjusts plans as necessary
- Oversees and participates in Licensed Dispensing Optician duties as needed, including fitting and adjusting eyeglasses and dispensing contacts
- Assists with counter duties and merchandising as necessary
- Approves and submits orders for equipment, merchandise, and supplies
- Conducts bi-annual inventories of merchandise
- Coordinates proper maintenance and repair for machinery and equipment
- Oversees apprentices as required for certification qualification
- Exercises discretion and confidentiality with all employee and patient information
- Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers.

**Education**
- High School Certificate or higher required
- Training and apprenticeship as required by state

**Experience**
- Managerial or supervisory experience
- Previous optical experience
- Food service experience or comparable experience
- Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and AS400
- Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal and organisation skills
- Basic math skills

**Computer Skills**

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and AS400

**Licenses and Certifications**
- Certificate IV in Optical Dispensing (or equivalent experience)
- State Licencing as Dispensing Optician or National Certification by state specific requirements

**Other Skills and Abilities**

Good communication, strong interpersonal, organization, problem solving, and math skills

- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Full COVID-19 vaccination or medical contraindications certificate
