The Student Wellbeing Department
The Student Wellbeing Department is dedicated to championing the health, wellbeing and inclusion of all Holmesglen students, creating a supportive environment where every learner can thrive. It provides counselling and mental health support, along with welfare programs such as financial assistance, housing support, and food security initiatives. The department also fosters an inclusive and engaging campus environment by promoting diversity, equity, and student voice, and offering targeted services for students with disability and First Nations students. It encourages active student participation in campus life and works with other departments and community services to connect students with the support they need.
The Head of Student Wellbeing
The Head of Student Wellbeing leads the delivery of high-quality counselling, welfare, engagement and inclusion services across Holmesglen. This senior leadership role oversees programs that support students' mental health, personal wellbeing, and access to essential services, while also fostering an inclusive, vibrant and participatory campus environment. The role is responsible for promoting diversity, equity and student voice, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported, and that services meet the diverse needs of the student population. Working in close collaboration with internal departments and external community partners, the Head of Student Wellbeing ensures a coordinated and student-centred approach to wellbeing, engagement and equity.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Student Wellbeing Department, including the development, implementation and review of mental health, wellbeing and inclusion strategies across the Institute.
Oversee the delivery of counselling, welfare and mental health support services across all campuses and support the Counselling and Welfare Services Manager to provide clinical advice and supervision to the counselling team.
Provide strategic oversight of the Institute's Safer Community program in consultation with the Safer Community Program Manager, including case management of students at risk of harm and the development, delivery and evaluation of workshops to students and staff.
Work collaboratively to champion diversity, equity and inclusion, with specific responsibility for oversight of disability support, First Nations student support, promotion of student voice, and active participation in campus life through Holmesglen's Student Association
Act as the Institute's Child Safety Officer and provide high level advice to ensure the Institute meets its obligations under the Child Safe Standards, including monitoring child safe incidents, implementing mandatory reporting processes and providing professional development to employees.
To be successful, you'll have
Post-graduate qualifications counselling, psychology, social work, mental health or a relevant discipline.
Current Victoria Driver's licence.
Proven experience in leading student wellbeing and support services in tertiary or related sectors, with a strong background in counselling, welfare, disability services, and First Nations student engagement.
Demonstrated capability in delivering and overseeing counselling services, crisis intervention, and welfare support, including the management of complex and sensitive cases involving risk assessment, intervention planning, and compliance with child safety and mandatory reporting requirements.
In-depth understanding of DEI principles and practices, with a track record of championing inclusive student engagement initiatives, disability support, First Nations inclusion, and adherence to child safety and cultural safety frameworks.
Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, engage diverse student cohorts, and navigate relevant legislative, regulatory and policy frameworks including mental health, child safety, equity, and occupational health and safety.
WWCC and Police Check:
Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining an 'employee' Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
Highly Desirable
Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA), or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Registration as a Clinical Supervisor.
