Overview
Adviser to Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher is a non-ongoing, full-time position based in Australian Parliament House, Canberra, ACT. The initial term is six months with the possibility of extension and potential for the role to become ongoing.
The office of Senator the Hon Katy Gallagher is seeking applications for this role to provide high quality advice and support relating to policy, public administration and political matters, with a focus on the Minister for Women portfolio.
Responsibilities
Provide well-considered, strategic advice to the Minister for Women and support delivery of priority, complex and sensitive policy, public administration and political issues, particularly related to ending gender-based violence.
Maintain effective relationships across government, including with other minister's offices and the Australian Public Service on complex policy priorities.
Liaise with the Australian Public Service on policy, advice and legislation, and ensure portfolio resources are used to provide high level advice and support to the Minister.
Liaise with stakeholders to support the Government's priorities and provide advice on parliamentary matters including Question Time, legislative processes and parliamentary business.
Assist in developing policy initiatives by analysing and preparing reports, papers, policy statements, briefing notes and statistical information.
Provide input into communications and political advice as required.
Promote, support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
Interstate travel and occasional irregular hours, especially during parliamentary sitting weeks, as directed.
Other duties as required to support the Parliamentarian and the effective operation of the Office.
Qualifications and skills
Demonstrated experience advancing gender equality through policy/programming advice and/or implementation in public, non-profit or private sector.
Experience addressing gender-based violence and related social policy issues; working politically and in public administration is highly regarded.
Strong understanding of government processes and translating policy into practice.
Understanding of the Australian Public Service and federal budget processes is highly regarded.
Excellent relationship management and collaboration across stakeholders and portfolios, including with other Ministerial Offices, the Australian Public Service and community stakeholders.
Ability to think strategically as part of a small team and deliver quality work in a high-pressure environment.
Professional integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
Respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.
Employment conditions
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement , including:
A commencing salary between
109,788
and
162,021
, negotiable based on experience and skills.
An optional allowance of
34,223
may be considered for additional hours of work and travel requirements.
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may be available (subject to eligibility).
Employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
Note:
