**Our Aboriginal Health team offers cultural, emotional and spiritual support to patients and families, and regularly provides**:
- support and participation in family meetings, goals of care and care planning
- patient advocacy and referrals to other services
- support in relation to discharge planning and linking to community services
Improvement and development of the Monash Health Aboriginal Health and Engagement program is an organisational priority for us here at Monash Health. We work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to develop and implement strategies, programs, and initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of patients and employees, close the gap on health inequity and provide culturally safe environments and care.
**We now have an opportunity to join our team in a newly created leadership role, **responsible for developing and implementing culturally appropriate education programs, strategies and resources to improve the delivery of healthcare services to Aboriginal patients and communities within Monash Health. This is a full time, permanent role.
**About the Role**
This position aims to enhance awareness and understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, health practices and social determinants of health among healthcare professionals, ultimately towards improving the health outcomes of the Aboriginal population.
if appointed to this role, you'll ensure that Monash Health staff practise safe, effective, person-centred culturally safe contemporary care by:
- Promoting evidence informed cultural education in a range of settings
- Supporting, developing and delivering formal education programs across Monash Health
- Contributing to policy development and clinical practice guidelines for Aboriginal patients
- Participating in and supporting Aboriginal health research
- Collaborating with Aboriginal patient/client and the multidisciplinary team to achieve goals and improved health outcomes
- Practising independently and interdependently and assuming accountability and responsibility for his/her/their own action
**About You**
You must be an Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander person to be eligible for the role.
You are passionate about supporting and advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and dedicated to improving health outcomes for this priority population group. You lead by example, thrive working in a dynamic, fast paced environment and are truly passionate about delivering a high standard of evidence based care to Aboriginal people. You have demonstrated experience and effectiveness as a senior educator, with proven ability to develop strategy and translate strategic objectives into operational performance.
You have well developed verbal and presentation skills, from experience of working in public health services and/or Aboriginal community services or education fields. Ideally, you will have had involvement in formal research in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health access and/or outcomes.

- able to influence, challenge and manage change to support the implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education programs
**What you need**:
- proven Community Connections
- Identity as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and you're accepted by the community and participate in cultural activities
- demonstrated experience working in health and in particular Aboriginal Health
- Australian working rights
- Bachelor's degree qualification(s) in a Health field (Nursing, Allied Health), Social Sciences, Public Health, Education, or other relevant qualification
- Qualification in project management, process improvement, change management or improvement science is desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications in Healthcare Education, Leadership or Public Health or progressing towards one of these is desirable
