About the role
We are seeking a resilient and compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioner for a fixed-term, part-time opportunity (30.4 hours per week) at our Community Care Unit (CCU) in Cairns. You'll provide intensive, person-centred, recovery-oriented support to help people transition from hospital to community living. This role involves working on a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and sleepovers.
Key responsibilities
Support people to return to the community and live independently
Engage clients using brief interventions, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and family-inclusive practice
Plan and deliver group programs to support recovery and skill-building
Support families and carers with education, information, and referrals
Collaborate with community services to ensure coordinated and integrated support
Contribute to daily residential operations, including housekeeping duties
What you'll bring
Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Experience working with people with mental health challenges and complex needs, including families and carers
Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice
