About the role
We are seeking resilient, compassionate Community Mental Health Practitioners to join our supportive team in Cairns. These fixed-term, part-time roles (30.4 hours per week) are available within the Adult Step Up Step Down service or the Cairns Community Care Unit (CCU). In this role, you will provide intensive person-centred, recovery-oriented supports to people to achieve their wellbeing goals, build capacity and daily living skills, strengthen social connections, enhance community networks and grow confidence to live independently in the community.
This role requires flexibility to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and sleepovers.
About the services
The Adult Step Up Step Down (ASUSD) is a short-term (up to 28 days, 24/7) residential service delivered in partnership with Queensland hospital networks and the local health service. It supports adults with a psychosocial disability to either transition from an acute hospital setting or prevent hospital admissions. ASUSD operates within a recovery-focused, clinical treatment framework, providing personalised one-on-one support, shared supports, and group activities based on each client's strengths and goals as identified in their recovery plan.
The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a longer-term (24/7) residential service that provides intensive treatment and recovery support for people experiencing serious mental health challenges. It supports individuals whose lives have been disrupted, making independent living difficult. Clients have ongoing access to staff and are supported to stabilise their mental health and develop the skills needed to safely transition back into the community from a hospital environment.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
- Support clients to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
- Provide information and mentoring to clients to establish relationships with families and carers, create community networks and access to relevant services.
- Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
- Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client's recovery goals.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
- Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
- Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
- Ability to provide a record of vaccination for Vaccine Preventable Diseases or willingness to obtain vaccinations for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B, or other diseases as required through our partnership with QLD Health.
Benefits
- Salary packaging up to $15,899 p.a. allows you to allocate a portion of your pre-tax income to cover living expenses (e.g. rent, mortgage, child care, car leasing expenses etc.)
- Option to access Meal and Entertainment allowance up to $2,650 p.a. via Salary Packaging.
- Fitness Passport - Access to our corporate health and fitness program, providing you and family with access to a wide choice of fitness facilities.
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), provided by Converge International, for you and your immediate family members.
