Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Drover Ag Full time

The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and experienced individual to join the dynamic team as a Feedlot Manager, reporting directly to the General Manager. This role is situated within a vibrant, recently established enterprise that trades 100,000-plus head of livestock annually and is poised for further expansion. The successful candidate will be supported by a team of full-time and casual staff, as well as livestock contractors, whose numbers will vary seasonally. This full-time position operates on a flexible roster system and includes some weekend work.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for livestock management and a commitment to continuous learning. They will be actively involved in all aspects of the business on a daily basis, including planning, reporting, budgeting, grain and fodder acquisitions, and staff allocations. Strong communication and organisational skills, coupled with digital literacy, will be instrumental in maintaining accurate records and collaborating effectively with various agricultural specialists.
A key focus of operations is the progression of the business, which emphasises incorporating advanced technologies such as AgriWebb and EID-based monitoring systems. A solid understanding of stock health management, including administering animal health requirements, is essential. Financial and/or budgetary experience would be considered advantageous.
The ideal candidate should also comprehensively understand ration formulation and demonstrate the ability to implement Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements within a diverse operational environment. Completion of relevant chemical and animal husbandry courses is a prerequisite, and previous experience managing a feedlot operation will be highly advantageous. Furthermore, the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in pasture and crop management and exceptional grazing management skills.
The Employer:
This modern feedlot is part of a larger agribusiness consortium. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities, specifically designed to enhance operational efficiency and animal welfare. The facility features undercover yards that provide comfortable shelter for the livestock, allowing the animals to thrive regardless of weather conditions. With advanced Electronic Identification (EID) drafting and weight crates, the feedlot ensures precise tracking and management of each animal, facilitating effective decision-making and health monitoring.
Construction began in 2020 and was completed in 2022, marking the establishment of a cutting-edge operation in the region. The property also includes a well-equipped woolshed, further supporting the dual purpose of livestock management and wool production.
As part of this organisation, you will work closely with third-party consultants, animal nutritionists, and senior management at head office, providing a unique opportunity for team members to operate with significant autonomy. This role not only emphasises independence and proactive decision-making but also offers genuine prospects for career advancement for those who demonstrate the right skills and dedication; they are committed to fostering the development of employees within a supportive and progressive environment.
The Offer
An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on their experience, paired with comfortable housing, on or off-farm, including utilities. The provision of a work vehicle is also included in the salary package.
The property is close to the Mighty Murray River, offering many camping, fishing, and holiday destinations to suit the needs of most outdoor enthusiasts. It is ideally situated 170 km from Adelaide and a further 7 hours' drive to Melbourne, providing access to many high school boarding educational facilities.
