Lead the enhancement of flood rescue operations and coordination
- Exciting new role working in a volunteer-based agency supporting communities of NSW
- Be a part of building the strategic future for flood rescue in NSW
- Full time, ongoing role at State HQ in Wollongong
**About the opportunity**
This is a newly created role and provides an exciting opportunity to build on the strong flood rescue capability that has evolved over the last decade within the NSW SES. The Manager Flood Rescue role is positioned to build a future orientated agency, understanding emerging trends, exploring various future scenarios and making proactive decisions to shape the future around flood rescue.
The role follows on from the NSW State Government flood inquiries which highlighted the need for an enhanced focus and coordination in the NSW SES and across all agencies with respect to flood rescue. It will focus on all aspects of flood rescue including policies, procedures, systems, coordination arrangements and integration of these into the agency's core business. The role will maintain a close relationship with capability and training, aiming to achieve best practice.
The role will liaise and work closely with the seven zone-based flood rescue coordinators, who are responsible for managing the functions relating to operational response, pre-incident planning and operational capability in their respective Zones to ensure the NSW SES can appropriately respond to flood rescues.
The role will implement strategies to mitigate day to day flood rescue risk posed to the communities of NSW.
Activities to be managed include:
- Leading the ongoing enhancement of the agency's flood rescue response and coordination, incorporating aviation requirements
- Implementation of flood rescue doctrine within the NSW SES
- Leading the enhancement of NSW SES operational systems to ensure the NSW SES is best able to efficiently and effectively respond to flood rescues
- Collaborating with key stakeholders to manage continuous improvements and operational readiness to ensure the agency is able to lead, coordinate and deliver best practice flood rescue capability and aviation response to the communities of NSW.
- Enhancing flood rescue coordination capability from all agencies, representing the NSW SES on relevant internal and external committees, liaise with emergency service agencies to promote the Agency's ownership of flood rescue coordination, procedures and facilitation of multi-agency flood rescue coordination exercises.
The role will be required to identify and inculcate best practice, as identified in the Flood Rescue Manual, across the agency to mitigate risk posed by weather forecasts, support activities or operational response deployments to assure the operational readiness and response capability of the NSW SES. This role will play a critical function in the strategic response to flooding, supporting Zones, the State Operations Centre (SOC), State Command Centre (SCC), Flood Rescue Cells, Flood Rescue Operators and all members.
