Job Description
A Staff Backend Engineer for Search Quality will lead the engineering strategy and execution to enhance search and recommendation quality across a range of digital products.
The successful candidate will oversee the architecture of scalable, low-latency systems that power discovery features across various assets.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement scalable backend systems that improve search and recommendation quality.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other teams to translate product goals into measurable backend solutions.
Design and implement experiments to refine features based on data-driven insights.
Mentor and guide other engineers to ensure high standards in software development and experimentation practices.
Monitor and troubleshoot search performance issues to ensure reliable and performant services.
Qualifications
Deep experience building and scaling backend systems with a focus on search and recommendations or similar domains requiring experiment-driven iteration.
Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements to discovery systems.
Proficiency in Java at a staff level and strong foundation in data structures and system design.
Strong communication and leadership skills with experience leading large-scale projects or initiatives.
Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerised services such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Curiosity and passion for empowering users through world-class product experiences.
