**About the team**:
The Climate Group at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is working to deliver on the Government's climate change agenda. We work to drive climate action, invest in technologies that lower emissions, help Australia adapt to a changing climate, provide data and analysis on Australia's greenhouse gas emissions, and deliver on Australia's climate change priorities through bilateral partnerships and multilateral fora. We work with stakeholders across industry, government and the community to deliver connected, evidence based policies and programs, administer legislation, and provide advice to the Australian Government.

**Emissions Reduction Division**

The Emissions Reduction Division develops and implements Australia's domestic climate mitigation policies and programs, including medium
- and long
- term emissions reduction policies and targets. It is also responsible for reducing emissions in the transport sector, voluntary action, and emissions reporting and projections. Our strategies and advice are complemented by the division's oversight and policy advice for the Clean Energy Regulator and Climate Change Authority.

**National Inventory Systems and International Reporting Branch**

You will be working in the **National Inventory Systems and International Reporting** Branch**. This Branch delivers the National Greenhouse Accounts and emissions projections, which provide information on Australia's historical, current and projected greenhouse gas emissions, fulfilling international reporting obligations. This data informs the design and tracks the effectiveness of domestic climate action and progress towards emissions reduction targets.

The data produced in the Branch provides key inputs into policy design and analysis and we work closely with colleagues across the Division and in other government agencies to support the design of climate change policies. The Branch also supports negotiation of rules-based approaches to international monitoring, reporting and verification of national emissions and abatement in the UNFCCC, and Australia's engagement in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The NISIR Branch is supportive of a flexible working environment including working remotely, or other arrangements as agreed by all parties.

We are seeking to fill this vacancy as a permanent position.

We are looking for an experienced manager to contribute to delivering the Government's climate change agenda.
- significant experience in managing large multi-disciplinary teams, including teams with people working remotely and in the office
- strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret and explain technical and specialist language
- good time and project management skills including understanding of various project management methods (eg waterfall, agile)
- critical thinking and problem solving skills
- the ability to manage, liaise and negotiate with, stakeholders across the department, other agencies and the community.
- Solid experience in managing budgets and undertaking procurement processes.
- Demonstrated ability to support and encourage innovation within a team environment, while ensuring core activities are maintained.

It is desirable to have skills and experience in the following:

- Geospatial activities (with strong understanding of remote sensing principles and raster/vector geospatial analysis); and/or
- Software Development of Cloud Based Custom Designed Applications; and/or
- IT project management.

An understanding of Climate Change or Environmental Science would be advantageous.

**What you will do**:

- Development and management of the custom-built Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM), which estimates carbon stock change and greenhouse gas emissions in the land sector at fine spatial and temporal scales.
- Preparation and analysis of a range of spatial datasets such as time series climate data, land use and cover change data, bushfire data, and other datasets for inclusion in FullCAM.
- Coordination with Departmental ICT groups to ensure implementation and maintenance of core divisional systems.
- Geospatial support activities for the development and maintenance of land based carbon accounting/reporting activities.
- Coordination of various satellite -based data processing contracts as well as spatial data acquisition processes.
- Stakeholder engagement including internal, cross-government and international stakeholders.
- Active engagement in annual reviews of Australia's inventory undertaken by international experts.
