Canberra, ACT, Australia Calytrix Technologies Pty Ltd Full time $80,000 - $120,000 per year
Terrain / Geospatial Developer

Location: Canberra, ACT

Company: Calytrix Technologies

Turn geospatial data into mission-ready terrain for Australia's Defence training.

About Us

Calytrix Technologies is an Australian-owned company delivering software, systems, and training support services to Defence and government organisations worldwide. With more than a decade of experience and over 125 complex training activities delivered, we've worked alongside the ADF, government agencies, UN bodies, NGOs and emergency responders.

Since 2005, we've been a trusted partner to the ADF in joint and collective training delivering simulation services that make training more realistic, scalable and accessible.

We employ more than 80 staff across Canberra, Perth and Orlando (USA) — with nearly 50% of our workforce being ex-Defence.

About the Role

We are looking for a Terrain / Geospatial Developer to join our growing Canberra-based team. You'll work in our dedicated Terrain Development Team, helping design, build and validate geospatial terrain products that underpin ADF and Coalition training exercises.

This is a hands-on, technically rewarding role where you will:

  • Analyse existing terrain data and identify new build requirements.
  • Source and manage geospatial data from internal and external providers.
  • Produce terrain sets to support exercise design, testing and delivery.
  • Participate in functional and operational tests to validate simulation environments.
  • Advise exercise planners and technical staff on terrain suitability for training objectives.

The role offers exposure to cutting-edge simulation technologies, opportunities to collaborate with highly skilled developers, and the chance to build a long-term career in Defence simulation.

About You

We're seeking candidates who bring:

  • Experience with common GIS/geospatial tools (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Knowledge of common geospatial terrain formats.
  • Exposure to Defence simulation environments or military geospatial experience (highly regarded).
  • Familiarity with simulation terrain tools (TerraTools, TerraSim) – desirable but not essential.
  • Some knowledge of constructive/virtual sims (e.g., JSAF, JCATS) – desirable but not essential.
  • A minimum NV1 clearance (NV2 upgrade desirable).

This role would suit someone with a strong GIS background looking to expand into Defence simulation.

Why Join Calytrix?

At Calytrix, you'll be part of a tight-knit, mission-focused team working at the forefront of Defence training innovation. We offer:

  • Competitive salary packages.
  • Opportunities for domestic and international travel.
  • A collaborative workplace with a strong mix of ex-military and technical specialists.
  • The chance to see your work directly support ADF readiness and training outcomes.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce, and we encourage applications from all backgrounds and abilities.
