**About the role**

Mater Hospital Brisbane Palliative Care have an exciting opportunity for a** Clinical Nurse Consultant** to join the team. This is a permanent part-time position, 3 days per week.

The Mater Palliative Care Department operates within the Mater Cancer Care Centre and Mater Hospital Brisbane to provide a consultation service to patients who have specialised palliative and supportive care needs.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Palliative and Supportive Care Team possesses an expert and authoritative knowledge of Palliative Care nursing, preferably within a Cancer Care context. The CNC works within a highly specialised and dedicated team who support patients in both the outpatient clinic and inpatient units, advocate and facilitate Advanced Care Planning, leads discharge planning and transfer of care to community and specialised services. Working closely with the service managers, the CNC initiates service improvement within the clinical speciality, undertakes projects and research activities to ensure an innovative and community leading service is delivered to patients and families receiving palliative and end of life care.

**Salary range: $59.87 - $67.21 (RN Level 3) per hour plus superannuation and access to salary packaging up to $15,900.**

**What you'll be doing**

As a valued member of the team you will:

- Provide clinical coordination and care to patients referred for palliative and end of life care
- Provide education, upskilling and clinical support for clinicians providing palliative and end of life care.
- Support the implementation of policies associated with Palliative Care including palliation, end of life care and Advance Care Planning
- Contribute to increasing appropriateness and effectiveness of Palliative Care services for ATSI communities.
- Ensure the delivery of innovative clinical practice models and therapeutic techniques.
- Lead, participate and collaborate with other key stakeholders in the design and implementation of continuous improvement activities and models of care for enhanced service provision.
- Contribute to specialised education for complex clinical issues impacting on patients and carers.
- Liaise with other senior nursing roles and multidisciplinary teams to ensure strong communication networks are maintained.
- Identify and actively communicate future issues and new directions for the service.
- Escalate issues impacting on clinical practice and care delivery.
- Leads and contributes to care coordination initiatives for the Palliative Care Service.
- Manage ethical dilemmas in a supportive, collaborative manner
- Develop and participates in Palliative Care Clinics, family meetings and inpatient ward rounds

**About you**
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (no restrictions)
- Post graduate qualification in Palliative Care or related discipline
- Extensive demonstrated experience in Palliative Care Nursing, with advanced clinical competency and experience
- You will have strong leadership ability and experience, as well as excellent time management skills
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to role model and promote the Mater values
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as within a diverse and complex professional workforce
- Demonstrated negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal -and the ability to communicate with your team as an effective senior leader
