Animal Welfare League SA (AWL) is seeking an experienced People Operations Manager to lead our people operations team – bringing together employee lifecycle, workplace health and safety, employee relations, human resources, and volunteer engagement to support the people behind our mission.

Drive strategic initiatives in workforce planning, employee engagement, industrial relations and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Management
Oversee and deliver end-to-end people initiatives – including HR strategy, recruitment, employee relations, workforce planning, policy compliance, training, and engagement programs with the aim to build a safe, inclusive, high-performing workplace for staff and volunteers.
Employee & Industrial Relations
Lead and manage industrial and employee relations, including EBAs, workplace disputes, compliance, policy development, and advisory support, while fostering constructive relationships with unions, employees, and stakeholders.
Advocate for AWL's volunteer program, overseeing the full volunteer lifecycle, promoting community engagement, and supporting pathways from volunteering to employment.
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Management
Manage AWL's workplace health and safety function, including strategy implementation, policy development, risk management, training, compliance, and promoting a culture of safety and wellbeing for staff and volunteers.
What We're Looking For
A Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
Extensive experience in HR and / or WHS management roles.
Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, Fair Work legislation, and WHS regulations.
Proven experience in policy development, employee relations, and performance management.
Demonstrated experience in WHS risk management, safety audits, and compliance reporting.
Experience in managing workers' compensation and return-to-work programs.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Ability to work both strategically and operationally in a dynamic environment.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
