Your Opportunity

The Principal in Residence Education Officer Special Duties (EOSD) will undertake a specialised project contributing to the implementation of the Queensland Reading Commitment - which will see a consistent, evidence informed approach to the teaching of reading in all Queensland State Schools.

This temporary, fixed-term role offers an exciting and unique opportunity to utilise lived experience leading their own school's reading improvement journey, to lead the state-wide sharing of best practice implementation strategies to enact Reading through the Australian Curriculum for reading improvement with school leaders. The applicant should have knowledge and insights into: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS); explicit instruction for reading; Year 1 Phonics Check; DIBELS; Cognitive Load Theory; systematic synthetic phonics; explicit vocabulary instruction and word study, shared and dialogic reading, evidence informed instructional routines, leading change to de-implement historic practices which could consider school resourcing.

Your Role

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Co-ordinate, lead and facilitate the development and delivery of practical reading improvement sessions to enact Reading through the Australian Curriculum with principals around the state;
Engage key stakeholders both virtually and face-to face;
Report directly to the Assistant Director-General, Reviews, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning; and
Collaborate with the Director, Reading to design the implementation strategy and development of presentations and resources - related to Reading through the Australian Curriculum implementation.

About You

personal drive and integrity to lead projects and work autonomously;
deep knowledge of the current reading and learning research;
deep knowledge of school and system resources and processes in primary and secondary schools;
experience in instructional leadership for reading improvement, through the implementation of a whole-school evidence informed approach, using components as outlined on the Reading Portal;
commitment to collaboration and teamwork and be open to innovative solutions; and
effective time management and strong written, facilitation and verbal communication skills.

Mandatory Requirements:
You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments.
Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 361/4 hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 5.12 of the Department of Education State School Teachers' Certified Agreement 2022
When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
