**Position Purpose**

The position is based at the Murdoch University Centre for Computational and Systems

**About the Work Area**

Through the FFS-CRC, the CCSM brings scientists and industry partners together in an
interdisciplinary environment, building on the academic strengths of individuals in cutting
edge analytical chemistry, data science and data visualisation. The Centre harnesses the
capacity of the Australian National Phenome Centre (ANPC) to generate high throughput, deep
phenotypic profiles of food products to verify the chemical makeup, monitor nutritional
functionality and other key attributes such as authenticity and freshness. These information
will support food health claims and enable future preventative healthcare strategies by
leveraging on the detailed molecular information of food products. The ANPC is a world-class
facility led by Murdoch University focused on high throughput targeted and exploratory
metabolic phenotyping. It is an engine for data science and analytics that supports research
across the Health Futures Institute. The ANPC, located in the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical
Research adjacent to the Fiona Stanley Hospital, Western Australia, is the largest dedicated
facility for metabolic phenotyping in the world. The ANPC houses the largest collection of mass
spectrometers and nuclear magnetic resonance instruments dedicated to phenomics research.

**Key Responsibilities / Duties**

1. Provide informatics support to MS and NMR specialists to ensure seamless execution of

metabolic phenotyping workflows and harmonization of methodologies,
2. As directed, to take responsibility for experimental design, data analysis, statistical

modelling and preparation of reports for designated projects, to assess data quality to
ensure integrity of data sets, provide data-driven solutions to solve specific problems
leveraging existing analytics tools & techniques, including Python, MATLAB and R
Programming,

3. To process data generated from NMR and MS platforms including ongoing assessment of
data quality,

4. Conduct univariate and/ or multivariate statistical analysis of acquired data,
5. To participate in the research and development of new methods and pipelines for the

processing or biostatistical interrogation of data derived from MS and NMRs,

7. To present scientific research results and interpretation to internal and external clients
and research collaborators,

8. To maintain up-to-date knowledge in the field of metabolic phenotyping bioinformatics,
