Purpose of the role

This position will report to the Senior Winemaker and will work closely with our team at the Bird in Hand Head Office based in the Adelaide Hills.

The primary responsibility of the Winemaker role is to create world class wine within a team of highly skilled working professionals. The winemaker role forms an integral part of our production team as we focus on producing wines that sit at the pinnacle of world-wide opinion. You will be committed to sustainable practices, a vital member within our innovative team and have an uncompromising approach to safety and quality assurance.

Specific responsibilities of the role include:

- Support the winemaking team through contributing to tastings, vintage planning, vintage reviews and presenting ideas for the continued improvement of Bird in Hand wines.
- Oversee the production of all wines.
- Conduct tastings to an elite audience
- To work with and oversee the Bird in Hand cellar and production team in conjunction with the senior winemaker and production winemaker.
- Ensure the cellar and bottling areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and aesthetic.
- Conduct all workplace tasks with Bird in Hand's environmental & sustainability commitments front of mind, including ensuring compliance to any relevant environmental laws and compliance obligations.
- Continually improve cellar and bottling workflow logistics and efficiency.
- Work closely with the Viticulturist to elevate the quality of the Bird in Hand Estate vineyards to a world class standard.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and respect amongst the winery team.
- Undertake other duties as required by Senior Winemaker.
- Shift work will be required. Oversee shifts and fruit intake during vintage.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

- Tertiary or equivalent degree in Winemaking or Oenology
- Ideally, 5+ years Winemaker experience.
