The New Acland Coal Mine (NAC), a thin seam open cut mining operation is owned and managed by New Hope Group. NAC based in Acland, 35km north-west of Toowoomba, has played a key role in the Darling Downs region as an employer and economic contributor since it began operation in October 2002.

**About the role**:
Reporting directly to the Health Safety & Training Manager, you will be responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of successful health and safety system initiatives, setting the strategic direction of the safety function for New Acland Mine. You will drive safety performance while providing support/coaching to site-based employees to ensure compliance with legislative obligations and requirements of the Safety Management system.

**What you will do**
- Develop and implement Health & Safety strategies that facilitate a high level of safety performance
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and H&S targets and standards.
- Build effective, credible and sustainable relationships with all stakeholders on site
- Champion a strong health and safety culture providing clear leadership to your team
- Deliver timely and accurate operational reporting and analysis improvements
- Deliver on principal hazard management and principal risk management
- Provide specialist advice and assistance to management, staff, and contractors in all areas of occupational health and safety ensuring effective training programs in place

**What you will bring**
- Minimum 5+ years' experience in similar role within mining industry
- Proven experience designing and implementing Health Safety and Training initiatives fit for purpose
- Excellent knowledge of WHS Acts, regulations, standards, and codes of practice
- Demonstrated ability to identify risks and implement appropriate strategies to mitigate/minimise
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across a broad group
- Well-developed knowledge of relevant mining legislation and industry practice
- High level judgement, decision-making and problem-solving capability, as well as a professional level of written and oral communication skills
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS
- Strong planning and organising skills
