About the role:
The Financial Counselling program offers a comprehensive service to individuals who may be experiencing financial hardship and/or stress. The program works across the Hume Moreland regain to coordinate, and deliver services which encourage self-determination, reliance, and economic independence.
The financial counsellor will act without conflict of interest, to negotiate and advocate on behalf of clients who are experiencing financial hardship and are at financial risk. The Financial counsellor, during the course of service delivery will be able to educate, pass on skills and empower clients as to their rights and responsibilities in all aspects of their financial interactions including when using credit and other marketplace services.
About you:
The financial counsellor will:
- Preferable have 2 years' experience in a financial counselling or related role and an understanding of issues relevant to the community service sector.
- Knowledge of casework as related to the target group
- An awareness of financial hardship and the issues that lead to financial stress such as, family violence, mental health, poor financial literacy, substance use and generational poverty.
- A skilled communicator who can enthusiastically engage with others
- Competent in the use of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), data entry, and navigation of databases and portable electronic devices.
- Knowledge of policies and practices of major creditors and the ability to identify the appropriate legislation which applies to particular debts.
- Eligible for membership of the Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic)
