**What you will be doing**:

- Working across the department, enabling understanding of essential functions and strategies of the Disaster Management Unit in the achievement of an all-hazards objective.
- Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to build and implement policies, procedures and issues relating to Queensland's disaster management arrangements.
- Coordinating and completing the drafting, writing and design of documents such as departmental plans, policies, arrangements, directives and other supporting documents.
- Activating and undertaking response activities during whole-of-government activation of the State Disaster Management Centre. Note: during an emergency event, this may mean being available to work outside of normal business hours within the Disaster Event Coordination Room or at the State Disaster Coordination Centre (Kedron).
- Responsible for preparing a variety of correspondence, including Parliamentary Briefs; Ministerial and Director
- General briefs; and verbally briefing executive leadership, senior management and departmental staff when required.
- Develop and deliver training, lessons management and exercise programs across the department to support HPW's preparedness for response to severe weather events.
- Representing the department on committees and working groups, building and maintaining strong linkages with relevant areas across the organisation and government, and ensure interoperability between divisions.
- Developing and coordinating projects of a substantial nature, including project leadership and management of activities.
- Conducting research, analysis and review of complex issues that may escalate and/or result in departmental disruptions and implement appropriate action.
- Advocating and fostering a culture of quality, continuous improvement and innovation to help build the department's capability to better prevent, prepare, respond and recover from emergency events.
- Developing and maintaining networks across Queensland's Disaster Management Arrangements and Disaster Management practitioners across

Queensland Government.

- Implement and maintain strong disaster management strategies and practices.
- Provide leadership and guidance in disaster management.
- Develop staff through providing appropriate guidance and supporting them to resolve their own issues, motivate individuals and create a culture which encourages staff to meet their potential.
- Possess project management skills and methodologies to ensure outcomes for the business unit are accurately scoped and delivered within budget and timeframes.
- Encourage a strong customer-focus and build strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
