It is the peak body for Victoria's 50 Community Legal Centres (CLCs), which assist people facing economic, cultural or social disadvantage and who are affected by legal challenges.
The Federation's vision is a fair, inclusive, and thriving community where everyone belongs, can learn, grow, heal, participate and be heard.Role and Responsibilities The Director of Policy and Advocacy is a newly created job share role, partnering with an existing Director who has extensive experience within the community legal sector.
Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Senior Management Team, the Directors will share the broad responsibilities of the role and enable and support Victoria's 50 CLCs to engage in coordinated and targeted systemic advocacy to drive the law reform priorities of the sector.
They will provide leadership and guidance to the Policy and Advocacy team, lead sector-wide projects to coordinate policy development, systemic advocacy and government engagement, and help the Federation be a strong collective voice for justice and equality on behalf of members and communities served.

You bring:High level expertise in government relations, political acumen, and a deep understanding of policy cyclesExtensive experience leading strategic and systemic advocacy, integrating lived experience, evidence, and practice into law reformStrong experience in policy development and implementation, with excellent written skills to clearly communicate complex ideas to diverse audiencesExcellent stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to build consensus across diverse perspectivesExperience managing a high-performing team and leading joint projects with a range of stakeholdersA strategic mindset, and ability to balance long-term goals with emerging opportunities in a dynamic policy environmentAn Australian law degree or substantial experience in the legal contextThe Federation is committed to providing a friendly, collaborative and positive working environment.
