- Drive systemic change for a fair and inclusive community
- Join a leading peak body at the forefront of advancing social justice
- Exciting Job Share role, Part time (0.6 or 0.8 FTE)
- 12-month fixed-term contract
The
Federation of Community Legal Centres Victoria
(the Federation) is a fast-paced and dynamic organisation that leads and supports excellence in the community legal sector, promotes the purpose and value of Community Legal Centres, and advances social justice and a fair legal system. It is the peak body for Victoria's 50 Community Legal Centres (CLCs), who are at the forefront of helping those facing economic, cultural or social disadvantage and whose life circumstances are severely affected by legal challenges. The Federation's vision is for a community that is fair, inclusive, and thriving, where every person belongs and can learn, grow, heal, participate and be heard.
The
Director of Policy and Advocacy
is a newly created job share role, partnering with an existing Director who has extensive experience within the community legal sector.
Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Senior Management Team, both Directors will share the broad responsibilities of the role and enable and support Victoria's 50 CLCs to engage in coordinated and targeted systemic advocacy to drive the law reform priorities of the sector. Providing leadership and guidance to the Policy and Advocacy team, the Directors will lead sector wide projects to coordinate policy development, systemic advocacy and government engagement.
The Directors enable the Federation to be a strong collective voice for justice and equality on behalf of the members and communities they serve. Recognising the leadership role of the Federation for Victorian CLC advocacy, this role will be particularly attractive to someone who excels in government relations.
About YOU
You're a strategic, collaborative leader with a deep commitment to social justice. You bring:
- High level expertise in government relations, political acumen, and a deep understanding of policy cycles
- Extensive experience leading strategic and systemic advocacy, integrating lived experience, evidence, and practice into law reform
- Strong experience in policy development and implementation, with excellent written skills to clearly communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach and the ability to build consensus across diverse perspectives
- Experience managing a high-performing team and leading joint projects with a range of stakeholders
- A strategic mindset, and ability to balance long-term goals with emerging opportunities in a dynamic policy environment
- An Australian law degree or substantial experience in the legal context
The Federation is committed to providing a working environment that is friendly, collaborative and positive. It offers generous salary packaging; flexible work arrangements to support employees with work-life balance; great entitlements including 5 weeks of annual leave and Christmas and New Year shut-down leave; access to an Employee Assistance Program and learning and development opportunities.
The Federation is committed to building a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people from culturally and racially marginalised and refugee backgrounds, people of all ages, neurodivergent people, gender diverse people and members of LGBTIQA+ communities. We welcome individuals with a diversity of backgrounds and experience, including lived experience of the issues we work on.
