Job Description: Business Development Manager Posted on: 8 May 2025Department: Business DevelopmentLocation: MelbourneExperience required: 4 - 10 yearsShare this positionJob Purpose:The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for promoting and selling WeFreight services within their respective market, focusing on new business opportunities with both small/medium-sized enterprises (SME) and large customers.
The role is self-driven and profit-oriented, aiming to generate new revenue and gross profit to meet targets.
The BDM will support trade lane development, coordinate with other branches for joint sales efforts, and raise awareness of WeFreight as a reputable service provider.Key Responsibilities:Sales and Business Development:Promote and sell WeFreight's services to new customers, targeting SME and large businesses.Secure new business opportunities to meet revenue and profit targets.Generate leads and pursue potential clients, recording opportunities in the CRM system.Ensure accurate recording of customer data and sales visits in the CRM.Relationship Management:Maintain and develop relationships with customers through regular visits and service validation.Provide timely follow-up to customer communications.Negotiate with customers within company pricing guidelines to maximize profits.Support trade lane development by identifying opportunities and increasing traffic.Work with internal teams to promote offerings in specific lanes.Develop strategies to grow market share and profitability in key trade lanes.Market Representation & Promotion:Represent WeFreight actively in the marketplace, promoting the brand.Raise awareness of services as a reputable provider.Promote core trade lines and products to increase profitability.Collaboration with Branches:Collaborate with other branches to align strategies and support global opportunities.Conduct joint sales calls and share business opportunities across the network.Strategic Planning & Market Analysis:Identify market opportunities and develop strategic approaches.Participate in sales meetings, sharing insights on trends and customer needs.Gather market intelligence to inform broader strategies.Operational Collaboration:Work with Operations and Customer Service to ensure successful execution of SOPs.Support quality service delivery to meet expectations.Financial & Administrative Support:Follow up on customer payments with the receivables team.Provide feedback to management for continuous improvement.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):Achievement of sales and profit targets.Number of new customers and revenue streams.Growth in key trade lanes.Customer satisfaction and retention levels.Success in joint sales efforts.Accuracy in CRM data input and reporting.Conversion rate of visits to revenue.Key Interactions:External: Customers, trade summitsInternal: Sales & BD, Finance, HR, Operations, Management, Branch officesEducation Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field.Preferred Experience:Experience in freight forwarding or logistics is advantageous.Background and Experience:Minimum 3-5 years in sales or business development, preferably in logistics.Proven track record of achieving targets.Understanding of market dynamics and trade lane development.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Core Competencies and Skills:Self-motivated and disciplined work approach.Proficiency with CRM and ERP systems.Strategic thinking and market analysis skills.Experience coordinating across regions.Core Competencies:Customer-focused, results-driven.Commercially minded with profit focus.Effective at promoting and selling services.Relationship-building skills.Team player with cross-regional coordination abilities.Follow WeFreight on LinkedIn for updates and new jobs.
