We are currently seeking a skilled and compassionate Support Worker who is proficient in sign language to join our team.
Position Overview:
As a Support Worker with sign language proficiency, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication and providing personalized support to our clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. Your ability to communicate through sign language will ensure that our clients' needs are understood and met, enabling them to participate fully in their daily activities and achieve their goals.
**Responsibilities**:
- Establish rapport and build trusting relationships with clients who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Utilize sign language to facilitate communication between clients and other team members
- Assist clients in developing and implementing their individual support plans
- Provide personal care support, including assistance with activities of daily living
- Support clients in accessing community services, appointments, and social activities
- Promote independence and empower clients to enhance their skills and abilities
- Monitor and document clients' progress, ensuring accurate and timely reporting
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the provision of holistic care
- Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines, including NDIS requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in sign language is essential for this role (Auslan or equivalent)
- Previous experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing is highly desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Disability Support, Individual Support, or a related field is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Compassionate, patient, and understanding approach towards individuals with disabilities
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
