We are seeking a Support Worker who is proficient in sign language to join our organization. As a vital member of our team, you will play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication and providing personalized support to individuals with disabilities.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing rapport and building trusting relationships with clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. They will utilize their proficiency in sign language to facilitate communication between clients and other team members.

You will assist clients in developing and implementing their individual support plans, provide personal care support, and support clients in accessing community services, appointments, and social activities. Your goal will be to promote independence and empower clients to enhance their skills and abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Proficiency in sign language (Auslan or equivalent)
  • Previous experience working with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing (desirable)
  • Certificate III or IV in Disability Support, Individual Support, or a related field (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Compassionate, patient, and understanding approach towards individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
