Your Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Gambling Counsellor to join our team as part of the GambleAware program based in Queanbeyan NSW.
This program provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental counselling and support for individuals, families, and community members concerned about their own or someone else's gambling.
As a Gambling Counsellor, you will deliver specialist therapeutic interventions via face-to-face, telephone, and online methods. You will support individuals, couples, families, and groups, offering services such as gambling-specific counselling, multi-venue self-exclusion assistance, and access to tailored information and strategies to address gambling harm.
Due to the geographical area the program covers, outreach work is an essential part of the role, requiring the Gambling Counsellor to work from various locations. If based in Queanbeyan this will include Goulburn and Cooma, or Shellharbour if based in Wollongong. A Pool car will be provided for outreach work and travel will be during work time.
A degree in psychology or counselling is preferred. Current membership with a recognised professional association is essential.

Your key responsibilities
Provide therapeutic counselling to individuals, couples, families, and groups affected by gambling harm via face-to-face, telephone, and online modalities.
Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised treatment plans based on clients' needs and goals.
Deliver services in line with the program framework, including intake, assessment, and evidence-based interventions.
Facilitate group support sessions to address gambling harm in the community.
Respond to referrals promptly and make appropriate internal and external referrals to support clients holistically.
Maintain accurate, confidential client records and data in line with funding requirements.
Requirements for Success
Degree in Psychology or Counselling / Other related Degree and Diploma in Counselling - For a further discussion about the qualifications required for the role please call Joseph Lyons – Program Manager on .
Current membership of a relevant peak professional body or association.
Proven experience in therapeutic counselling, including assessment, case planning, and the delivery of individual, couple, family, and group sessions across face-to-face, phone, and online settings.
A strong understanding of gambling-related harm and the challenges experienced by affected individuals and families.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement tailored treatment plans supporting client recovery and wellbeing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
Current NSW driver's license
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children / vulnerable people.
