
Deputy Principal Special Education

**Position Information**:
Peterborough School is a K-12 setting and has a strong commitment to support students with moderate to severe intellectual, physical, and multiple disabilities including autism and mental health disorders. Currently, the school has an enrolment of 111 (14 IO/IS classes and 2 MC classes). The school encourages all students to embrace their identity and now has 13% of students identifying as Aboriginal.
The school strategic directions focus on personalised learning, wellbeing, and delivering quality teaching and learning programs with an emphasis on improving literacy, numeracy and communication outcomes for all students.
The deputy principal's role will be to promote the school's strategic directions aligned to the department's priorities and develop a positive school culture in partnership with the principal, staff and the school community. They are critical to the school's executive team; their role characterised by the need to adapt to the specific circumstances of their school and communities.
At Peterborough School the deputy principal role may come with a teaching component reflecting the needs of the school.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria,
Demonstrated expertise and proven successful experience which may include relevant tertiary qualifications, supporting students with moderate to severe intellectual disability in a specialist educational setting.
Highly developed, collaborative leadership that contributes to an effective senior executive and executive team to proactively influence the school's strategic directions, with an emphasis on high expectations and wellbeing programs.
Exceptional ability to initiate and foster genuine collaborative partnerships across the school to enhance educational and wellbeing outcomes through building authentic connections with students, staff, parents, carers, and the wider community.
Demonstrated outstanding communication and negotiation skills to lead and manage complex and challenging situations that leads to improved outcomes for all in a supportive inclusive environment.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
