You will be a first-class journalist and leader working as part of the digital team in the country's most dynamic news organisation.
This senior editorial role will put you at the sharp end of Sky News journalism, commissioning and delivering big video projects and managing dynamic on the day news coverage. There will be considerable team management responsibilities.
What you'll do:
- Make key editorial decisions about Sky News digital output, commissioning original video content and overseeing production teams through to publishing
- Be responsible for leading, managing and developing a successful team of video journalists
- Take the lead in managing the technical aspects of video production, with experience in problem solving everything from remote log ins to edit software integration
- Have 'best practice' edit experience to effectively critique and sign off high impact, sensitive video journalism before publishing
- Be creative and have ideas for innovative ways to bring to life our news coverage on the major video platforms; YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat and Sky News app
- Be instrumental in developing new strategies to convert our social audiences into users of the Sky News app and website
- Have the creative confidence to pitch or devise new video strands using multiple live streams, edited video, presented or captioned
- Ensure that all digital off platform content, including On Demand TV video, is published in a timely, accurate and clear way at all times
- Work closely with our audience development team to implement data-led strategies to make the premium Sky News TV, audio and digital formats reach as many audiences as possible.
- Be able to identify what is working, what is not
What you'll bring:
- A demonstrable track record in high impact digital video production
- Deep knowledge of technical aspects of Adobe Creative Suite, including After Effects and Photoshop, and working knowledge of Quantel RIO- Self-shooting experience very desirable
- An encyclopaedic knowledge of current affairs.
- Deep knowledge of news audiences and their behaviours on different apps and platforms
- First class news-writing ability (including flawless written English), flair for headline writing, ability to spot a top line
- A full understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements for a modern digital newsroom- Strong planning and organisational skills
- A calm, detailed and methodical approach to work
- Ability to work well with staff at all levels to ensure goals are met
- A 'can do' attitude that reflects the teamwork, collaboration, adaptability and initiative that defines Sky News
- A willingness to get involved in all aspects of the 24/7 operation of Sky News
