**Your new role**

As an APS6 communications officer, you will join the external strategic communications team. You will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies and products to support the department's outcomes and priorities. You will work closely with policy and program areas, as well as other communication specialists across the branch, to deliver high-quality and fit-for-purpose communication solutions for external audiences.

**What you'll need to succeed**

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Demonstrated experience in communications account management, including developing and implementing communication strategies for external audiences.
- Excellent writing skills (including plain English) and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build and sustain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated planning and organisational skills, including ability to meet deadlines with competing priorities and delivering work to a high standard
- Experience managing communication strategies with the ability to identify areas for improvement, provide content advice and initiate change
- Ability to think strategically and identify ways in which the team and/or section can build on its goals and strategies
- Experience working within a team environment with the demonstrated ability to lead projects and make decisions independently
- Empathy, willingness to learn and a team-orientated approach
- Experience supervising more junior staff or a willingness to do so.
