Job purpose:

We're seeking a highly organised and detail-focused individual to join our team as a Permits and Projects Officer located at our Sangate Cemetery (Newcastle area). The successful candidate will be responsible for processing permit applications for monumental works, ensuring standards are implemented and maintained across our cemetery sites along with managing contractors. This role will also support section development and cemetery development through minor project works and related tasks.

Key accountabilities:

• Manage permit applications and approvals for monumental construction projects
• Ensure compliance with legislative and business requirements
• Conduct monumental inspections, investigate non-compliance and damages, and report with rectification recommendations
• Provide expert advice to customer care teams and families on monument queries
• Manage contractors, conduct audits and inspections ensuring WHS compliance
• Develop and maintain monument specifications documents, review tenders and provide recommendations on vendor selection
• Support section development, participate in product development meetings and conduct financial audits
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required
• Build relationships with key stakeholders, including internal teams and external contractors
• Support facility management and other related duties as required

Requirements:

• Experience in compliance, contractor management and permits or a related field
• Understanding of building processes and contractor management
• Knowledge of permit certification processes and procedures
• Ability to read and understand engineering site plans and drawings
• Experience in coordinating contractors and trades to achieve project outcomes
• Good computer skills and efficient time management
• Current unrestricted Driver's License and Construction White Card (or willing to obtain)
• Ability to comprehend Australian Standard AS4204:2019 and other relevant standards would be an advantage
