The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.
The Youth Justice Learning and Capability team is part of the Transformation, Development and Capability business unit, responsible for transformation, learning and development to support employees. The team delivers training across Youth Justice Custody and Community areas, spanning induction training to refresher, upskilling and professional development training.
Learning and Capability's purpose is to enable staff to grow their capabilities through quality learning and professional development services, to better serve our community.
The Opportunity
- Fixed term, full-time position until June 30th 2026, based in Werribee and other Youth Justice locations.
- VPS Grade 4 role: $97,955 - $111,142 per year plus superannuation.
- Develop and deliver training for Youth Justice staff, including foundational and professional development programs such as Operational Safety Training.
- Plan engaging training sessions and develop Individual Learning Plans
- Support enrolled staff to achieve the Certificate IV in Youth Justice through coaching, assessment and feedback.
- Provide subject matter expertise to foundational, onboarding, and professional development programs through facilitation and contributions to relevant support guides.
- Contribute to policies and procedures including but not limited to training delivery, assessment, training schedules, rosters, and staff skill development.
- Work locations include Werribee Training Hub, Cherry Creek, Parkville, as well as other training venues in the metropolitan West, South-West and Inner Northern Suburbs (availability to regularly teach across locations is a must).
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Proven ability to lead engaging group and individual training sessions to achieve targeted learning outcomes with strong leadership skills to guide and mentor trainees, fostering a culture of professional growth and continuous learning.
- Knowledge of managing critical incidents, staff deployment, and youth worker skills to support effective training strategies.
- Skilled in assessing learners for nationally recognized qualifications, ensuring assessments meet competency standards and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in Nexus, including recording attendance, creating new course events, printing attendance sheets, assigning training and conducting reporting.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Diploma of Vocational Education and Training or Diploma of Training Design and Development or willing to obtain.
- Certificate IV in Youth Justice or willing to obtain.
- A current driver's licence is required due to the need to work across different locations.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
