your opportunity
Join yourtown as the Indigenous Mentor to support the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people within the Transition to Work program. Provide culturally specific mentoring and guidance to Indigenous youth aged between 15-24 years of age and help them develop the skills required to help them enter and stay in the workforce. Your connection, cultural knowledge, and mentorship will be key in fostering belonging, resilience, and long-term success.
Your days will be diverse but in essence will include:
• Provide ongoing responsive mentoring to young people in employment, helping them build confidence, navigate challenges, and sustain long-term career pathways.
• Building strong connections with Elders, community leaders, and local organisations to promote our employment services and increase culturally aligned referrals.
• Designing and delivering weekly cultural activities and workshops that celebrate identity, strengthen community pride, and build connection.
• Supporting the wider team by sharing knowledge, resources, and insights that deepen awareness and ensure respectful, inclusive support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.
• Build and maintain employer relationships locally who foster supportive workplaces.
• Create relationships with employers to support and understand their needs to support both their business and young people success on the job.
what we are looking for
You are passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and truly believe in every young person's capability to achieve a positive future in everything they do. You engage and build rapport easily with young people. You also understand the importance of community and actively build connections with local elders and community groups.
In addition you also possess;
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with an employment/case management focus.
• A solid understanding of local jobs as well as the barriers faced by disadvantaged young people.
• Open to deliver workshops and group facilitation with young people (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specifically).
• Proficient skills in using technology and systems; our compliance requirements are high and your administration needs to be on par with this.
