Job description

Butler Freight Services is a Wharf Transport and Distribution business in West Melbourne. We currently have an opportunity for a qualified trailer technician at our workshop facility as a Supervisor.

Whilst this is partly a leadership role it is also a hands on role and you will get to work on a variety of trailers including B Doubles, Super B Doubles, Retractable Skel trailers, side loaders and general trailer combinations.

The main duties of the role are as follows -

  • Supervision / Leadership and Management of a small workshop team
  • Assist in the daily running and organization of the workshop.
  • Carry out repairs, maintenance and servicing on a wide range of trailers and equipment
  • Identifying and recommending preventative maintenance
  • Undertaking diagnostic work
  • Completion and submission of all relevant paperwork and reports
  • Working with internal technical support staff
  • Assist in training and mentoring Trades Assistants working on the same shift.
  • Model safety and assist in the development and refining of Safety Documents

To be successful in this role you will possess the following-

  • Trade qualification as a heavy diesel mechanic / trailer technician
  • Experience in welding small items
  • Preventative maintenance and inspections
  • Ability to diagnose problems and service mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Previous experience working on heavy vehicles
  • Effective verbal communicator
  • Strong team player
