Description: We are currently seeking a Community Support Officer to support victim-survivors of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) to access culturally appropriate services/programs that supports their overall health and wellbeing.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Victorian Aboriginal health, local Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control health service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal organisations, communities and individuals in culturally appropriate ways
  • Demonstrated understanding of the diverse health and social needs of Aboriginal people
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including a friendly and professional approach and an ability to deal with a broad range of people at all levels.
  • Sound written verbal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, including an ability to prioritise, manage multiple tasks, work to deadlines, manage interruptions and adapt to changing priorities
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality and remain impartial at all times.
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability of working independently with minimal supervision, and as an effective team member, promoting cooperation and commitment to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in community support role and/or formal qualification relevant to role.

Duties include (please see position description for full details):

  • Engage with the community to identify programs, projects, and activities that support community affected by domestic, family and sexual violence
  • Assist to develop and deliver education sessions about domestic, family and sexual violence
  • Investigate other opportunities for community engagement within the scope of CHADAC
  • Provide input into the CHADAC newsletter.
  • Provide advocacy for individuals, families and the community around domestic, family and sexual violence
  • Facilitate referrals (internal and external) as required.
  • Maintain records and statistics on projects, program activities, and educations sessions in Communicare and other written reports.
  • Cooperate with management initiatives and participate in achieving the targets outlined by CHADAC
  • Work in accordance with the EEO, OH&S, Code of Conduct and safe working practices, policies, and procedures of CHADAC.
  • Participate in staff, planning and accreditation meetings.
  • Participates in the performance appraisal and supervision process.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge via appropriate staff development activities.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills in recording and reporting information to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work as part of a team and actively participates in staff meetings.
  • Participate in quality improvement and accreditation activities.
  • Undertake work in accordance with the CHADAC Code of Conduct and the CHADAC Policies and Procedures.
  • Other duties as directed.
